My Olympic Refugee member I chose is...

James is a track and field athlete who competes in 400m events, originally from South Sudan, but he now lives and trains in Kenya.

James was selected by the International Olympic committee to compete for the Refugee Olympic team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He was born March 2nd 1992 (24 years.)

His height is 1.79 m.

He weighs 59 kgs.

James began running while he was attending a school in Kenya and he joined in with a group of older children. He often had to train without shoes.

In 1999 James father (who was a soldier) was killed during the second Sudanese Civil War.

James was 11 years old when he lost his father in a Civil war, he continued to live at home in Bentiu where he looked after cattle. He was 13 when he left his home in South Sudan to avoid being kidnapped by rebels who were making children recruit as child soldiers.

After travelling thousands of miles like many other South, Sudanese children, James, arrived in Kenya in 2002. He settled in Kakuma camp, where the UN High commissioner for refugees supported him.
