CHAPTER 7 QUESTIONS

1. Describe the one person Bruno knew to be mad. Herr Roller
2. What does Bruno do to entertain himself? Bruno creates a swing in his backyard which he cuts his knee on and Pavel mends it for him.
3. What is Bruno’s opinion of Lieutenant Kotler? Grumpy, thinks he’s boss
4. How does Gretel act around Lieutenant Kotler? Gretel acts like she is the best, when she really isn’t. She twirls her hair around her finger and talks to Lieutenant Kotler in a dreamy kind of voice.
5. How does Lieutenant Kotler treat Bruno? He treats Bruno older than he really is and Bruno doesn’t understand the tire joke Lieutenant Kotler told.
6. How does Lieutenant Kotler treat Pavel? With disrespect because he is a Jewish person
7. How does Bruno feel when Lieutenant Kotler treats Pavel like this? Bruno starts to wonder why Lieutenant Kotler is treating Pavel like this after what he has helped everyone with.
8. How does Bruno injure himself? By swinging to high and falling of the swing, wacking the back of his head and getting a cut is his leg
9. Describe Bruno’s injury. Brunos injury was a fall of the swing, a hard whack on the back of his head and a nasty  cut on his knee which Pavel cleans up for him.
10. Who looks after him and what do they do? Pavel looks after Bruno and he cleans up his cut and places a plaster to stop it from bleeding.
11. What do we learn about Pavel’s past? We learnt that Pavel was training to be a Doctor but then got taken to the concentration camp and has been sent to Bruno's house to cook and peel veggies instead of being in a concentration camp.
12. Why does Pavel’s behaviour change when Bruno’s mother arrives? Pavels behaviour changes because Bruno's father doesn’t want Jews touching his children without his permission or him NOT knowing.
13. How does she treat Pavel? With more respect than father but says “If father asks who cleaned Bruno up I did” because if father found out Pavel touched his child he would be shot then and there or sent back to the concentration camp.
14. Why won’t she tell Bruno’s father what happened? Because Bruno’s father doesn’t want any JEW people touching his children
15. Does Bruno understand the situation here at Out-With? Explain. No. Bruno does not understand why they are at Outwith, Gretel and Bruno think they are in the Countryside where they grow the vegetables for BERLIN.
