Day Out

Day Out 2019

A few weeks ago I got told that I got picked for the Year 8 girl to go to a day out with other year 8 students from around the Grey District. Levi and I got picked as the 2 from Grey Main. |

We started the day with a visit to the Grey Mouth Polytech for breakfast, we had Ambrosia, sandwich, fruit and a cupcake. It was sooooo good! We also got a tour of the kitchen and garden. Then we got into 2 groups and went in vans and drove to Search and Rescue, where we got a tour of the helicopter and split into teams and did a challenge. They couldn't pick a winner so we all won! Then we went to the fire station and got tour of the inside and 2 trucks, got to set out a small fire and then my favourite activity climbing a 3 story building. It was so much fun, the view was amazing. Then we got pizza for lunch along with fizzy/water. We were even aloud to take back to school/home a pizza if there were left overs!

Overall I had a really good day! I am so grateful that I got picked to do these awesome activities.
Did you get picked from your school?

Trying out for the touch team

Touch

Last Thursday Aimee (My sister) and I went down to Karoro Domain, to try out for the touch teams. Aimee tried out for Under 12's if I remember rightly and I tried out for Under 13's. We haven't been told if we made it in yet, I really hope I get in as I tried really hard. Have you ever tried out for a sports team before?

Halloween Writing

Over the last week we have been working on spooky writing, since Halloween was this week. I had a lot of fun writing spooky stories, and would like to do it again.

THE NIGHT OF HORROR
Freezing, I walk up the stairs of an old battered house. Knock, Knock, Knock… screech… The door opens. I take one step inside… BOOM the door slams behind me. I tug on the door handle but it won’t open, it’s jammed.

The light flickers on, I see a silhouette at the end of the hallway. CRASH, the light falls from the ceiling and smashes right in front of me. The silhouette has disappeared into the shadows.

I take a few steps forward towards the spiral staircase. There is a big gust of wind, pieces of paint peeling off the walls. SHATTER. The sound of a window shattering is enough to make me jump. The shadow races up the staircase leaving not a trail behind. I take off up the stairs... they start to crumble under my feet. I jump off just as the stairs crumble down next to me. I hear a laugh in the distance, I look up and see eyes staring directly at me.

Coughing from all the dust surrounding me, I get up and run as fast as I can to the bathroom, slamming the door shut behind me. Footsteps following my every move.

Athletics 2019

Athletics 2019

On Wednesday this week we had athletics, I competed in everything except High Jump which is today after lunch. Since it was so wet down at ANZAC park we did shot put and discus at school, then we went down to ANZAC park at 1pm to do the long distance, sprints and long jump. First up after the years 5,6,7's the year 8's ran 1,200 metres which is 3 laps around ANZAC park. I was in the lead the whole time for the girls by a good 6 metres but then right on the last sprint Reagan got past me and ended up beating me by around 2 seconds. I was really gutted but I tried my hardest and still got 2nd!!! I was really happy with how I went but kind of gutted I got 2nd by not much at all. Everything else I was pretty good at and enjoyed.

Wearable Arts 2019

Wearable Arts 2019

This term we have our Wearable Arts. Wearable Arts is a activity our school does every 2 years for the seniors. (Year 7&8). We have this entire term to work on our costume. In the end of Week 10 we have the presentation of everyone's costumes, the person who is wearing the costume has to walk the cat walk in front of the audience (Public, Friends and Family). You get to pick the music you have when walking the cat walk. Once you have walked the cat walk and get the front stage the other 2 in your group talk about the costume you've made. Once everyone has walked the cat walk in there costumes you get marked on how well you did, if your Wearable Arts Booklet is up to date and how well you worked together and of course how amazing your costume looks!

I am very excited to see what our costume looks like at the end of the term as we have been and are working very hard to get it looking amazing. I am so proud of ALL of our efforts so far and think we're going to pull this off!

2nd Cell Phone Argument

Last week we started planning our second argument. We then began writing it, I found writing this argument a little easier than the other one because kids should definitely not have cell phones at school let alone before they turn 13.

Cell Phone Argument Writing

Argument Writing:
For the past week we have been writing a argument on whether children under the age of 13 should have a cell phone. I believe they shouldn't have a cell phone. I got my first cell phone when I was 12, I am now 13 and think that when you turn 13 you should have a cell phone.

West Coast Cross Country and School Cross Country

Grey Main School Cross Country 2019

Last week Grey Main School had there cross country. I was quite nervous to do my run but I knew I would do my very best. When the Year 8 girls got called up we all lined up on the line ready to go. Mrs Prendergast said 'Ready, Set.... GO! We all took off down the straight and around the first corner. We complete our first lap with Reagan in the lead, myself coming 2nd and Maddie and Kyra not far behind. We exit out the gate and around the block, up the hill and down the hill into the staff carpark. Then around the field for our last lap. Where still in the same order Reagan coming 1st, myself second, Kyra 3rd and Maddie 4th. We come past Miss Hines and Miss Power and go into through the gates. I was so proud of myself for coming 2nd and was even more proud that I got into West Coast!

West Coast Cross Country 2019

Yesterday 5th of June was the West Coast Cross Country. I arrived at school freezing cold dressed in my track pants and puffa jacket. We meet in the library and Mrs Clark gives us our t-shirts. We get changed into them and then head to our car groups. I was in Reagan and Millah's car with there Dad Brent and my sister Aimee. When we arrive there we sit in our seats and I watch all the races before mine because the order of the races was Year 6, Year 5, Year 7, Year 8 and the secondary school and they were boys races and girls races. So I was the very last race because the boys went first. Then my Dad arrived he watched my sister and the other races and then my race. 'On your marks, get set... GO! We were off I started off in the front the I dropped off to the middle patch. I finished by over taking a girl on the last straight. I was quite happy with how I went but I didn't quite get into Canterbury Cross Country. My sister got into Canterbury and it's the day BEFORE my birthday the 19th of June. Good luck to everyone who got into Canterbury!
