Reflection W4

Numeracy
I learnt how to solve change unknown problems in Hokey Pokey maths group. I think it is quite easy because all you need to do is jump to your tidy numbers and then add them together and that is your number that you put in the middle of your question.

Reading- For reading this week I worked on my sentences starters with Mrs Costello and my group and I learnt that you can start sentences with anything. Here are my sentences.

  1. At 12:00, we are going out for lunch.
  2. The kids, were jumping on their beds.
  3. Quickly, the girls crossed the finished line.
  4. She ran.
  5. The turtle was as slow as a snail.
  6. The wiggle worm wiggled as she waited
  7. The girls raced across the finish line.
  8. My Dad likes motorbikes so we have got 7.
  9. The thunder was as grey as a rock.
  10. Swimming, she quickly finished her two lengths
  11. Tired, the girls fell over round the corner.
  12. Aimee balanced steadily on the beam.

Literacy- For literacy I have learnt how to write a Newspaper report and I also read it out at assembly. Here is my news report.

Charlotte's Web article
Late at night charlotte was spinning a web, but it wasn’t just any web it was a web with words. Soon everyone started coming to see what Charlotte had created but everyone thought it was Wilbur because they had not seen Charlotte yet.
Charlotte a spider with seven sections made a web with words in it and it said SOME PIG, Mr Zuckerman thought Wilbur had made it because he hadn’t known Charlotte had existed.
At Zuckerman’s big red barn in the outskirts of Greymouth. Where Charlotte lives with some other animals including Wilbur.
Because Wilbur wanted to have someone who admired him so Charlotte made a web saying SOME PIG and now Wilbur is famous so Mr Zuckerman demanded  Lurvy ( The farm helper) to make a crate and make it green with gold letters saying WILBER THE FAMOUS PIG so lurvy said “OK I will get to work”. Later that day Charlotte put another word actually asked another animal and one animal said “Terrific” so she added that word and Mr Homer Zuckerman thought it was AMAZING so he got Lurvy to contact the Newspaper reporter and now there is visitor from from all over the WORLD

Mainstar

I got 3 newspaper articles out of the Greymouth Evening Star on Friday 20th May.

1) BABYSITTER PRIME SUSPECT

Description:

Karen De Luna, a babysitter from Invercargill has shifted back to the Philippines. Karen has become a suspect in a four year old child death.
Bea Daleon was a 2 year old from Southland who died from a skull fracture in 2012, she was rushed to Invercargill hospital after having a seizure and her life support was turned off days later.
Karen was interviewed by police soon after the death and was allowed to leave NZ months later with her husband.
Bea's father revealed the police would mostly charge Karen with the death, but the police weren’t able to force Karen to come back to NZ because the 2 countries did have a extradition treaty.

What I found interesting/ My Opinion:

I think that Karen should have been made to come back to New Zealand and face the charges because something must have happened to the child while she was in her care and she died, which makes the parents very sad because they lost their daughter!.

2) ROAD SIGNS MOWED DOWN

Description:

In the past 3 weeks at least 30 road signs have been vandalised in the Grey district all worth $10,000.
The Grey District Council  have notified the police as the latest discovery  is that speed and directional signs from Greymouth up to Blackball and around Lake Brunner and MItchells have been deliberately knocked over or removed probably from a four-wheel-drive vehicle with ball bars.
There has also been give way signs smashed down at both ends of Cobden. Also the large 50kph speed limits signs at Taylorville - each costing about $600. Give way signs missing near the Stillwater Bridge. Directional arrow signs have been knocked over out at Inchbonnie and all the signs on the back road through Mitchells to Kumara are missing.
Senior constable Mike Tinnelly (Greymouth Police) would appreciate any information which may lead to the culprit or culprits.

What I found interesting/ My Opinion:

I think it is very bad that someone has broken all these road signs because people that visit these areas might not know the speed limit or where to go.

DOG BITES 11 CHILDREN IN PARK
Description:

In London, British police have arrested a 37 year old woman after a Staffordshire bull terrier bit 11 children in a park, this happened 6:30pm on Wednesday ( local time).
Brett a father that lives across the road from the park helped restrain the dog after his daughter had ran into there home after being bitten. There were other parents in the park lifting children out of harm’s way as the dog was running around super fast biting every kid.
There was about thirty kids in there because it was a new park.
The dog bit a child on the shoulder, another child on the arm and another child on the thigh all being left with puncture wounds.
Nine children were treated in hospital and three were kept overnight.

What I found interesting/ My Opinion:

I think it is terrible that the lady had the dog in the playground and didn’t have it on a lead. There should be a sign up in the playground showing - NO DOGS ALLOWED. I feel sad because so many children got hurt and I think that the lady and the dog should both be punished for what happened to all of those children.
