Thanks for sharing your observation of this painting. You have done a good job of identifying some of its features. I agree, it does look like a chess board with two equal, but opposing sides. Do you think it has a meaning? I wonder what the artist is trying to say?
Have you looked at some other drawings by the artist? MC Escher was very good at creating images that mirror each other. They are almost like little mind puzzles.
