Dear Editor of Stuff News,

My name is Katelynn, I am a Year 6 in Mamaku Hub at Grey Main School in Greymouth.
At our school we do extra activities called MAINSTAR and it covers a variety of key competencies called managing self, Participating and Contributing, Using Language, Symbols and Text, Thinking and Relating to others. It is optional to do these activities, if we do them we can earn ourselves Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum badges at the end of the year.

One of the activities this term is…Find an article that makes you upset. Write a letter to the editor persuading them of your point of view.

I have chosen your article from your website www.stuff.co.nz

This article made me feel extremely sad and angry that Christchurch Hospital could treat any patient with such disgusting care.
Patient Neil David Jones came in and was jaundiced and severely unwell due to a long battle of alcoholism. He suffered diarrhoea and vomiting.
Doctors made the decision to discharge him after 20 Days, despite the fact he was still unwell. Neil had nowhere to be discharged to, so he was dumped at a nearby bus stop. THIS IS SOOOOO HORRIBLE!!! People passing by were trying to get him help and take him back to the hospital, but he was trespassed by security.

In my opinion everyone deserves to be treated with the same respect and the doctors didn’t do this for him because they assumed his illness and trying to get a free ride, he wasn’t even his own clothes because he had soiled himself, so he was at the bus stop in hospital pajamas. This makes me so upset for him. His Mother even said that he was treated worse than a animal.
It was so upsetting to read through your article and see that Neil had passed away.
The doctors working that night should be absolutely disgusted with themselves. It would be no different if I went up to the hospital feeling unwell and they sent me home without even giving me a check-up.
To try and see a positive, it was good to read and see that changes have been made, but NO ONE should have passed away for this to have happened.

Yours Sincerely

Katelynn F
