I am sorry to hear your grandad passed away. He sounds like an amazing role model!
Those are some very important lessons he taught you. Sometimes it can be hard to remember the exact words people say to us. I find it easier to reflect on how people made me feel, rather than the specifics of what they said. It sounds like he had a strong work ethic and took great pride in what he did. You are very lucky to have known him.
Spending time with family is a great thing to do. It reminds me of an old Māori proverb:
He aha te mea nui o te ao. He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.
